Crans-Montana to host FIS World Cup stage in the spirit of sport and remembrance
Jan 16, 2026·Alpine SkiingThe Organizing Committee in Crans-Montana, together with FIS and Swiss-Ski, have jointly decided on how the Audi FIS Ski World Cup event will be held from 30 January to 1 February. While the race program will be maintained, with an adapted format for the supporting events around the finish area, all side events scheduled to take place at the Place d’Ycoor, in the center of Crans-Montana, have been canceled.
Following the devastating fire in Crans-Montana on New Year's Eve, the organizing committee, Swiss-Ski, and the FIS have been intensively discussing how the three World Cup races should be held.
The event set-up will be limited to the races and the spectator areas along the slopes and around the finish area. A restrained program of events will be offered, including moments of silence and remembrance.
"For the community of Crans-Montana, for the snow sports community, and for many others, sport and these World Cup races are sources of confidence and hope during this time of emotionally processing this tragedy," says Diego Züger, Co-CEO Commercial of Swiss-Ski. "We have fully supported the organization of these World Cup races from the very beginning, with a clear focus on the sporting aspect."
Didier Défago, CEO of the Organizing Committee, says: “Since New Year’s Eve, we have all been united in shock and grief; we will remember this tragedy for the rest of our lives. Swiss-Ski and the FIS share our conviction that sport can evoke many positive emotions and thoughts even under these circumstances. This reinforces our decision to hold the races.”
