South American Cup Speed Season Wraps Up in Corralco, Chile

Over 90 athletes from 32 nations competed in the Ford Chile Winter Series Visa events

The South American Cup (SAC) speed finals concluded successfully at Corralco, Chile, marking the end of the Southern Hemisphere racing season. Over 90 athletes from 32 nations took part in the week’s events, held on the perfectly prepared slopes of Ski Corralco and organized by Snow Animal as part of the Ford Chile Winter Series Visa.

The competition program featured two Super-G and two Downhill races from September 29 to October 1, with challenging weather conditions testing the athletes’ adaptability and skill.

Women’s Events

Finland’s Rosa Pohjolainen dominated the women’s races, claiming victories in the first Super-G and both Downhill events. The U.S. Ski Team also delivered strong performances — Tricia Mangan won the second Super-G by a narrow margin of 0.01 seconds, while Allison Mollin earned three podium finishes across the week.

Men’s Events

On the men’s side, Chile’s Henrik von Appen and independent U.S. racer Wiley Maple shared top honors in Super-G, while von Appen also captured victory in the first Downhill. Slovenia’s Martin Čater took the win in the second Downhill, closing the week on a high note.

South American Cup Titles

Consistency paid off for Iceland’s Hofi Dora Fridgeirisdottir, who claimed all three women’s titles. On the men’s side, honors were shared across several nations, with Sweden’s Fabian Ax Swartz taking the overall crown.

The South American Cup featured 20 events across three ski resorts, offering athletes vital opportunities to earn FIS points, fine-tune their performance ahead of the upcoming World Cup season, and build momentum toward the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games.
