First competition in FIS Roller Ski World Cup 2023

Linn Sömskar (SWE) and Emanuele Becchis (ITA) secured 1st place in the sprint race in freestyle technique at the opening competition of FIS Roller Ski World Cup 2023 which takes place in Schuchinsk, Kazakhstan.

In the women’s race, Linn Sömskar took home race time of 2:41:92. Victoria Nitteberg, from Norway, finished in second place, (+1.64 sec). Jackline Lockner, from Sweden, completed the podium in 3rd place, (+2,10 sec). Julie Henriette Arnesen, from Norway, rounded out the top 4.

In the men’s race, Emanuele Becchis took 1st place with time of 3:16:26. Artum Kovalyov (KAZ), finished in second place just 0.2 seconds behind the winner. Matteo Tanel (ITA), completed the podium in third place with +0.49 seconds back. Tommaso Dellagiacoma (ITA), rounded out the top 4.

Junior World Cup competition overview

In Junior Women category GHIDDI Anna Maria from Italy demonstrated strong and stable performance throughout all competitions rounds and took win in seasons opening race leaving 2nd place to KHVOCHSHENOK Anastassiya (KAZ) and 3rd to GERACHSHENKO Mariya (KAZ).

On Junior Men`s side all starting field was dominated by local athletes from Kazakhstan. Podium places were won by 1. BAZARBEKOV Sultan, 2. KALIBEKOV Dastan and 3. ZAVYALOV Artyom.

Nevertheless, in Junior categories it was good to see also increasing participation and progress for athletes coming from Thailand, Chinese Taipei, and Kirgizia.
