Legendary Slovenian snowboarder Marko "Grilo" Grilc passed away this week while on location in Soelden (AUT) scoouting for an upcoming film project, it was confirmed by police reports and in statements made by his sponsors Burton and GoPro on social media. He was 38 years old.

An active competitor on the FIS Snowboard World Cup circuit from 2002-2013, Grilc earned four podiums in his 22 career starts - including a victory at the London big air World Cup early in the 2010/11 season.

Alongside competing, Grilc was also prolific in front of the camera, filming countless video parts and episodes of his web series "Grilosodes." In recent years Grilc had maintained his level of influence even while slowing down somewhat from his professional heyday, gaining a devoted mainstream following while posting much-loved social media updates of himself, his wife Nina, and their two children enjoying life on and off the slopes.

Our thoughts are with Nina and the children, as well as the rest of their family, friends, and the snowboard community at large affected by this tragic loss.

RIP, Grilo.
