Big week for Chileans as SAC wraps up in Cerro Castor

The 2025 South American Cup wrapped up this past weekend in Cerro Castor, Ushuaia (ARG) with a heavy four days of action that saw both the freeskiers and the snowboards dropping in on two slopestyle and one big air event from 20-13 August.

On the women’s freeski side of things it was a masterclass by veteran Dominique Ohaco of Chile, who went a perfect six-for-six on the brief SAC season to easily top the standings and earn herself a quota spot for the 2025/26 World Cup season.

While Ohaco has 39 World Cup starts to here credit, the 29-year-old hasn’t dropped in on the big tour since the 2022/23 season, and she will look to regain the form that once saw her finish third on the big air World Cup overall rankings back in the 2017/18 season.

For the men’s freeskiers it was Argentina’s Cristobal Colombo earning his World Cup personal quota spot as the SAC overall winner. With two victories and a runner-up finish last weekend at Cerro Castor, Colombo finished his southern winter with four victories and one second-place finish in his five starts.

Over on the snowboard side of things it was more good news for Chile, with Antonia Yanez matching Ohaco by going six-for-six with victories in the 2025 SAC season. Yanez last appeared on the World Cup back in 2018/19, with her last competition in Cardrona seeing her finish in seventh place. It will be interesting to see how Yanez fits back in on the world’s premier snowboard tour after seven years away.

It wasn’t just a good SAC season for Chile, it was also a phenomenal season for the Yanez family, as Antonia’s younger brother Alvaro locked in his third-straight SAC title. The 23-year-old with 19 World Cup starts in his career will be looking to take things to the next level in what will be his third World Cup season this upcoming winter.

ANC rolls on with Thredbo big air

The Australia New Zealand Cup returned this week to Thredbo (AUS), where one of the southern hemisphere’s premier freestyle resorts hosted a strong big air competition.

Freeski competition saw Australia’s own Daisy Thomas take her second straight win at Thredbo, returning to the scene of her slopestyle win from the start of August for the BA victory this week. Thomas leads the women’s ANC BA/SS freeski rankings.

For the freeski men it New Zealand’s Fergus McArthur on top, earning his second victory of the ANC season to remain in top spot on the standings.

On the women’s snowboard side of things it was more strong stuff from the Aussies, with Meila Stalker taking the victory to add to her slopestyle victory at Thredbo earlier in the ANC season to claim her place atop the ANC rankings with just two competitions left to go in the BA/SS season.

For men’s snowboard it was New Zealand’s Zephyr Lovelock claiming his first career ANC win, moving himself into second place behind Tiarn Collins on the standings. Collins took second place there in Thredbo behind Lovelock.
