The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced FIS as one of the finalists of the IOC Climate Action Awards 2025 in the International Federation (IFs) category.
FIS was recognized for the development of the FIS CO2 Calculator, a tool designed for National Ski Associations and Local Organizing Committees to measure, manage, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions not only at events, but also during the planning phase.
At the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, for example, the tool guided strategies like using wood-chip heating, with hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) as a backup, reducing heating-related emissions by 96.6%. Last month, the FIS CO2 Calculator won the 2025 Sport Positive Award for Inspired Innovation.
The IOC Climate Action Awards celebrate impactful initiatives that address climate change across the entire Olympic Movement. The winners in the three categories ─ Athletes, National Olympic Committees (NOCs), and IFs ─ will be announced in the run up to the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games.
